Team Heatwave Report
Newall Green High School students Austin Whelan, Alex Morton and Melissa Simpson were invited by the BBC in Manchester for a very important task. They had the honour of interviewing Fire Fighters, Neil Gyllenship and Dean Jagger (Team Heatwave) who have been participating in an epic rowing race across the Atlantic Ocean since the 6th December 2009, to raise money for charity. The charities they have chosen are Hospice ‘Clare House’ on the Wirral and ‘Childflight’ who provide flights and holidays for sick and deserving children. Via an Internet link up, the students were able to talk to the firemen and ask the excellent questions they had collectively come up with. The quality of the signal was surprisingly good considering they were talking from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!
The next day the interview was broadcast across the Greater Manchester region on the BBC Radio Manchester Breakfast Show. The interview will shortly be on the school website www.newallgreenhigh.manchester.sch.uk
