Free Computer Lessons For Over 60s
Free computer lessons are being offered to Manchester residents who are over 60, at local libraries across the city.
For complete technophobes or for those simply wanting to brush up on existing skills, anyone over 60 can book up to six one-to-one sessions at their local library learning about things such as email, how to download photographs and how to surf the net.
All Manchester libraries have computers, which anyone can use and anyone over 60 can use them free of charge for up to two hours a day (subject to availability).
Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure said: The free computer lessons are a welcome addition to the services that the libraries offer older people. It will give them the opportunity to learn more about using computers at their own pace and will give them complete freedom about what they want to learn. Whether they are absolute beginners or want to learn new skills this is a great starting point and we can also advise on other courses if they want to take it further.”
People aged 60 years or older do not pay fines on books, audio books or language courses as part of the library services commitment to making services more accessible for older people.
There are also a number of different activities organised at the libraries in which older people can take part including regular coffee mornings, reading groups, author visits and talks, health events, knitting clubs and chess clubs.
Mobile and home visit library services are also available for anyone unable to visit a library themselves.
