Every Child Counts
St.Peter’s Catholic Primary School, Newall Green, is at the forefront of a new government initiative, designed to help children overcome difficulties in maths. The programme offers specialist 1:1 tuition where children receive 30 minute, daily lessons, focusing on their counting and mental maths development.
Initial results have been outstanding: in 12 weeks each child made at least 14 months gain in their mathematical age score.
Numbers Count Teacher and Deputy Head David Wilson, is delighted with the impact being made: “The programme is proving invaluable; children who previously didn’t enjoy maths now take a full and active part in their lessons. It is also benefiting the whole school as other teachers take on board the key messages of Every Child Counts.”
