Dancing Strictly For Fun
Wythenshawe residents took to the dance floor in a festive ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ event for the over fifties.
The free event at Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre, was organised by Manchester City Council, Age Concern and South Manchester Healthy Living Network.
Over a hundred residents took take part in sequence dancing, where spot prizes were be awarded for outstanding performances.
However, the day was more than just about dancing, as there was a wider emphasis on health and well-being with relaxation and complementary therapy sessions, as well as information stalls giving financial and practical advice on keeping warm this winter.
Councillor Val Stevens, Deputy Leader at Manchester City Council with responsibility for Valuing Older People, said: “A lot of work has gone into this day which is all about having fun, enjoying exercise and making new friends. The beauty of sequence dancing is that anyone can join in and it’s a group activity so dancers all get to know each other. The combined benefits of exercise and socialising are good for body and soul”.
