Youngsters Send Greetings to our Soilders
When members of the Royal Oak Youth Club decided to send presents to soldiers serving in action overseas, they contacted Councillor Tony Burns to make the arrangements; but the Army requested that instead they sent Christmas Greeting Cards. The young people were delighted to do so, and spent their spare time writing and addressing the cards.
They presented them for Tony Burns to send off through the Army Welfare service to serving soldiers.
Tony told Wythenshawe World, “This was an initiative of the youngsters themselves and was not instigated by the Club Adult staff; although the staff were on hand to help them prepare the cards. Criticism is heaped on youngsters today but these youngsters showed that they are good citizens and have compassion for the Armed Forces serving overseas in difficult and dangerous circumstances. I am proud to be associated with them”
The boys and girls are pictured presenting the cards which have now been sent out.
Parkway Green Housing Trust staff are also arranging for books to be sent out to service personnel to help in their off duty hours. Anyone who has books to give may give then in at the Parkway Green Office.
