Students in the Dragons Den

4aStudents from the Manchester Health Academy successfully pitched their idea for a handbag charm to a select panel of Dragons at an event held at Manchester Airport.

The Airport Community Network invited local schools to participate in an Enterprise competition. The Health Academy were allocated a mentor, Jayne Mehta, who offered business guidance and support to develop ideas.

The Health Academy had to recruit an entrepreneurial team and find a name, eventually settling on Hi-Flyers. The team then had to find a product they all liked and, importantly, that they thought would sell well. The Hi-Flyers choose to follow the latest fashion trends and selected hand bag charms as their product.

They presented their ideas and displayed a prototype of the product to the group of Dragons at Terminal 1 at Manchester Airport. After a nervous wait, the Hi-Flyers were commended for their project and rewarded with £60 in order to encourage production and marketing of the charms. The group will be taking orders and producing the charms at various school events and Christmas fairs in the area.

Each charm costs £3.50 and can be in colours of your choice.

The winning team will be the one who makes the most profit by Monday 14th December 2009.

The Prize is a trophy for the next twelve months, a chauffeur driven limo into Manchester from school and back, a meal out and tickets to the library theatre!
