The Jimmy Egan Boxing Academy took a new strong team to the Peticur Bay Holiday Park, Fife, where they faced a strong Scotland Eastern District Select team.

Opening the evening was George Brennan, who was defeated by Joe Murray ( Craigmillars A.B.C.)

Andre Anders won a great contest against Kelty’s Danny Tarling, and Macauley McGowan put in a fine effort, beating James Morton (also Kelty A.B.C.)

Ashley Joyce boxed very well to make it three wins a row for the Egan Club, who train on Royalthorn Road, Benchill. He beat southpaw Stuart Blackie (Queensferry)

Kofi Yates fought a tight bout against Connor Law ( Kelty) with the Scot getting a close decision, but Zak Burton boxed cleverly to get the better of Mark Docherty ( kingdom of Fife A.B.C.)

Boxing for the first time in two years Tom Spicer put in a good stint, but lost to Steve Cramb, (Madisons), and Peter Egan , in his final fight, also wnt down after starting well against Midlothian’s Scott Grant.

Kyle De Bank, last year’s national University Champion, boxed brilliantly to defeat Scott Hartley (Alloa)

In the final bout of the night A.B.A middleweight champion 2009 Hosea Burton outclassed Scotland A.B.A title holder Darren Reid (Alloa A.B.C)

This was the Academy’s second year boxing in the annual dinner show in Edinburgh, and cheif coach Steve Egan said “ It was a great trip, and with a bit of luck we could have come back with seven wins instead of five”

The Jimmy Egan Academy are hosting a boxing show this Saturday 28th November at the Yew Tree Hotel, Northern Moor 8pm start. For tickets ring Steve Egan on 07886 035030 or pay at the door on the night.

January 2010 sees the 30th Anniversary of the gym, started in 1980 by Steve’s late father. A re – union party will be held at Friday’s Didsbury on 16th January when all former members will be made welcome. Phone Steve on the above number for details.
