Movin’ On Up
Darryl Morris from Manchester’s XFM radio station popped into Mike George’s WFM 97.2 show to thank the presenter for giving him a spot on his show over the last two years. Darryl presented a regular TV Watch item, including soaps and TV news.
He started his broadcasting career while still in high school as a Breakfast presenter, and also in the Bolton market hall on Saturday mornings.
He is now on the board of Bolton FM, a new community radio station.
After cutting his teeth on community, market and school radio, Darryl is now contracted to XFM and helps produce a regular Breakfast Show and also provides holiday cover for the weekend Breakfast Show.
Mike said, “I first discovered Darryl when he won a competition to present a show on Radio 5, broadcasting to 40 million listeners. I interviewed him in Bolton and immediately saw his potential. Having him come to the studio to meet the talented young people we have at WFM was a great honour, and he reprised his old role as TV pundit. A great privilege to have him in the studio once again.”
Darryl is pictured with Matthew Hemmerty, budding presenter and actor Chris Oatway and aspiring presenter Ryan Madddocks. Mike presented Darryl with a certificate to mark his time with WFM.
As to Mike’s dream of taking over at the BBC from Sir Terry Wogan, it appears that he has been gazumped by Chris Evans! Mike, however, is taking a leaf out of the ginger ones book by moving to the flagship Monday morning breakfast Show at WFM from October.
