Community Force
Dozens of community conscious residents have attended a special meeting to recruit members for a new volunteer group.
Many of the people who went along to the meeting, at Wythenshawe Forum are already community champions in the area and they wanted to find out more, and sign up.
They met Manchester City Council Deputy Leader Councillor Jim Battle, MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, Paul Goggins and Chief Superintendent David Anthony of Greater Manchester Police, to discuss how they could help with the new scheme.
Members of the Community Force will be involved in keeping their neighbours informed of crime trends and be regularly consulted by the police and partners regarding crime and disorder issues in their own neighbourhood. They will also be invited to events and training and awareness sessions with the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.
Councillor Battle said: “There are hundreds of people throughout Manchester who give up their time for free for the good of their communities. It’s really heart warming to see just how many people volunteer to help make their neighbourhoods even better places to live and this scheme will build on the goodwill that already exists.”, said Councillor Battle.
Chief Superintendenr Anthony said: “There is a lot of good work being done throughout Wythenshawe and community volunteers can help us build upon this. The Community Force scheme provides an opportunity for local residents to really make a difference to their local community and make Wythenshawe a safer place to live.”
