Stop, Look, Listen… and WIN CASH!
Road safety was top of the agenda as eight schools battled it out at the final of the Junior Schools Road Safety quiz , organised by Manchester City Council’s Road Safety Team.
Following an exciting finish at the Town Hall this year’s winners Abbott Community Primary School, Collyhurst were presented with their trophy and a cheque for £200.
The runners up St Anthony’s Primary in Wythenshawe received a cheque for £100 from The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Alison Firth. The remaining six schools including Northenden and Sacred Heart Primaries received cheques for £50.
Designed to promote interest in and knowledge of road safety matters among 7 -11 year olds, the children were faced with questions based on ‘Tales of the Road’ - a highway code for young road users - in observation, team and individual rounds.
Councillor Richard Cowell, Executive Member for Environment said: “I am delighted to see that this quiz continues to be a popular event with primary schools year on year. Teachers and children across the city put in a lot of hard work into learning about the Highway Code and there has been a very high standard in the preliminary rounds. This year alone more than 20,000 children have increased their knowledge in road safety and if this knowledge helps to prevent even one traffic casualty then it has been invaluable.”
More than 100 schools took part in the quiz this year.
