Eed Festival
During a special Assembly, boys and girls at St John Fisher and St Thomas More Primary School, focused on the Muslim festival of Eid-Al-Adha.
To introduce this Muslim festival children, parents and staff discussed the similarities in common with other religious festivals, such as card giving, sharing gifts, eating special food, wearing special clothes, thinking of friends and family, and considering those less fortunate.
The assembly helped children understand that Eid-Al-Adha is a time of celebration and sharing.
The youngsters contributed with readings and how the festival is celebrated, and took part creative activities, making Eid cards and prayer mats.
A group of pupils also performed a colourful scarf dance.
Children were also invited to have Mendhi patterns painted onto their hands using henna paste.
Mum Huma Altaf and her daughter recounted the significance of what happens the night before Eid.
Huma explained to the children which special clothes are worn, how the house is decorated and what special food is eaten.
