A Night of Nostalgia
300 former Golden Garter staff members and patrons attended a 40th Anniversary stage show at the forum featuring Shep’s Banjo Boys.
The seven piece group, who performed more than 1000 shows at the Wythenshawe Nightclub from 1968, went on to appear regularly on ITV show The Comedians after being spotted by producer Johnny Hamp.
The impresario was in the audience at the Forum, just a couple of hundred yards from the site of the former cabaret club, which is now a bingo centre.
Also present were former Golden Garter manager Mike Robbins and his son, comedian Ted.
The Shep’s ensemble, still featuring most of the original musicians, performed a wide range of material, from war time sing-a-longs to George Formby classics, and Alexander’s Ragtime Band.
