Everything Including the Kitchen Sink

A sink, an ironing board and a supermarket trolley were among items found amongst the trees by 22 missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who went to Nanook Woods in Northern Moor for a service project.

‘It’s sad to see those things but maybe we can restore the woods then people will have more respect for them.’ Said one of the Mormon volunteers.

Nanook Woods is ancient woodland in Wythenshawe Park and the missionaries from England, Germany, Hungary and the USA spent several hours clearing the area of tyres, tools, chip bags and alcohol bottles before trimming rhododendrons, and planting oak trees.

The missionaries are in the country for 18 months to 2 years and each week give of their time voluntarily to help in the area where they are serving.
Park Warden Ian Mcdougall, said, ‘We are really glad to have you and you’ve made a big difference.’
