50+ Dancing Sessions

After the success of TV series like Strictly Come Dancing it seems the whole nation has got the Dancing Bug.

That’s certainly the case at the Royal Oak Community Centre in Baguley every other Tuesday, when it plays host to Ballroom Dancing for the over 50’s.

It all started as part of Parkway Green Housing Trust’s ‘Valuing Older People Programme’, and over the past few months it’s gone from strength-to-strength with attendance growing weekly and now over 60 people take part each time.

Thanks to a grant from Parkway Green’s Regeneration Panel, members from Brooklands, Baguley and Northern Moor and other areas attend the fortnightly group.

The group now runs itself with the help of Parkway Green Board Members Gina Hall, Pat Higson and her husband Graham.

Pat successfully applied for a cash grant to enable them to fund a trip to the pavilion in Buxton, where they had a beautiful lunch followed by some dancing.

Graham, who helps run the sessions, said, “When we first started the dancing classes only 8 people turned up- but its continued to grow and grow and it’s absolutely fantastic the amount of people who now get involved”

Alison Sullivan, Regeneration Project Manager at Parkway Green Housing Trust said, “This initiative is about valuing older people and here at Parkway Green we are proud to support it all the way.”
