Five students from Wythenshawe are on track to a brighter future, after successfully completing their first six months of a pioneering employment and training scheme. The programme, called PG Gateway, was launched by Procure Plus and Parkway Green Housing Trust, and is designed to give the young people practical, on-the-job experience.

The initiative sees the pupils from Newall Green High School, St Paul’s High School and Manchester Enterprise Academy spend three days per week during term time in school, and the remaining two days working with Parkway Green’s fencing team to carry out improvement works to local properties and community areas. Shoppers in Wythenshawe Town Centre were treated to a fun packed launch day as Wilkinson, the value home and garden retailer, opened the doors to its newest store, situated in Etrop Court, off Rowlands Way.

Shoppers queued outside, eager to be the first to see the new store and grab a bargain or two. The Lord Mayor of the City of Manchester, Councillor Harry Lyons, cut the ceremonial ribbon, alongside Wilkinsons’ chief executive, Stuart Mitchell and assistant store manager, Shahnaz Miah – marking the start to a day of celebrations.

The Manchester United Foundation and Parkway Green Housing Trust joined together to bring the Premier League Trophy to Wythenshawe.

Fred The Red and United Legend Denis Irwin brought the trophy to Parkway Green House in Northenden so customers and staff could have the chance to get their picture taken with the celebrated trophy.

Parkway Green work in partnership with the Manchester United Foundation on a number of different projects including a scheme to provide free football coaching to young people in the local area.

Shoppers in Wythenshawe are in for a treat next week when Wilkinson, the value home and garden retailer, opens its brand new store, situated in Etrop Court, off Rowlands Way, on Thursday 15th September.

The 15,000 sq ft store will officially open at 9am, when the The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of the City of Manchester, Councillor Harry Lyons, will cut the ceremonial ribbon, alongside Wilkinsons’ chief executive, Stuart Mitchell and assistant store manager, Nathan Morrow.
